It's really hard to believe that Ready. Set. Write. is already over. Overall it's been a very productive summer for me.
Here are the goals I made last summer and how well I did. (technically I still have a week left before I leave for school)
1. Finish revising my manuscript, THE ROAD TO RUIN
I am so close to finishing. I have a couple more scenes to get through and then I'll be done! If all goes according to plan I will finish tonight.
2. Start writing (~20,000) my untitled scifi WIP
Revisions ended up being a lot more taxing for me than I thought they would be so I didn't have a lot of time to spare in between work and life. I also learned that it helps if I outline first so I've been working on a rather detailed outline when I have the time.
3.Query at least 10 agents
Hahaha this goal makes me laugh. It was a reach goal to begin with. I did write a query letter that I plan on sending as soon as I am through with these revisions.
4. Achieve all my summer reading goals (featured in a below post)
I've finished 4 out of 5 so far, but I'm hoping I can finish number 5 before I go back to school. I did manage to read 20 books so not too shabby!
5. DIY my bookshelf
This is another thing I'm going to finish this week. It's truly almost done though.
So as you can see I technically didn't finish any of my goals...yet. Except for number 3 I should be able to finish them off by the time I leave for Austria to study abroad. Even though I didn't finish any of my goals within the RSW time I still feel good about this summer. I really learned a lot about myself as a writer. I learned that I'm not a huge fan of revisions and that they take a long time to get through and require a lot of thinking. I also learned that I'm more of an outliner than a pantser.
All in all, it was a very good summer. I hope everyone had a great summer as well! See you next year!
